In accordance with Queensland law, from 1st July 2006 smoking is banned in all enclosed areas and in the majority of licensed external (outdoor) area of Brisbane Powerhouse.

As a premise that holds a Special Facilities License under the Liquor Act 1992, some parts of the licensed external areas of Brisbane Powerhouse have been designated as a place where smoking can legally occur (i.e. the Designated Outdoor Smoking Areas – DOSAs). As a Special Facility License holder, only smoking may occur in these areas – no consumption of food or beverage may occur in these DOSAs.

Brisbane Powerhouse has developed this Smoking Management Plan to comply with the legal requirements for having DOSAs. This plan provides detailed information on the DOSAs, including the location and boundaries of the DOSAs, how smoking is managed at the premises, and measures for assisting compliance.

This plan also promotes and supports Brisbane Powerhouse’s commitment to minimizing exposure of staff and patrons to environmental tobacco smoke, including minors.

This plan is made under section 26ZC of the Tobacco and Other Smoking Products Act 1998.

MANAGEMENT OF SMOKING
MINIMISING ENVIRONMENTAL TOBACCO SMOKE

Brisbane Powerhouse is managing smoking and smoking issues through the following actions:

  • Establishment of three DOSAs where smoking ONLY is allowed and has banning smoking on all other licensed areas at the precinct
  • Directing patrons who wish to smoke to one of the DOSAs
  • Instructing staff who wish to smoke to do so in a DOSA
  • Ensuring that within each DOSA there is no:
    • Serving of food and drink
    • Consumption of food and/or drink
  • Ensuring that ashtrays and smokers bins are located only within the DOSAs
  • Provide training to staff so that they know how to immediately and adequately address non-compliance
  • No tobacco products or associated products are sold by Brisbane Powerhouse
  • Making available information on smoking and passive smoking to patrons, upon request.
