Clocked Out presents
Amazing Women
Tue 27 Oct 09
This annual series curated by Brisbane's own Clocked Out explores the contribution by women to the contemporary notated music scene.
New York musician Jane Rigler performed at MoMA, lived for 10 years in Madrid performing with the best European free improvisers, and developed an entirely new way of playing the flute.
Through electronics and multi-art practices she has extended her world by exploring microscopic sounds, designing new interactive interfaces, and rummaging through free improvisation.
Performing for the first time in Australia, she will expand her world again, by allying with the experimentalists Vanessa Tomlinson and Jan Baker Finch and gathering local players who will simultaneously sing and play the flute, making new work inspired by their immediate surroundings.
You think you know what the flute can do?
Supported by Brisbane Powerhouse.“Jane Rigler is an extraordinary flutist equally at home with the most demanding new works and her own unique improvisations.” John Fonville, flutist/composer
“a much needed direction for progressive, experimental music." Rikardur O.Palsson, Morgunbladid (Iceland)
“Clocked Out are ready and willing to expand your musical horizons” Brett McCallon, Splendid E-zine (USA)
