Museum of Brisbane and Brisbane Powerhouse presents
Andrew MacK - Broken Boards, Broken Hearts and a Broken Mind: A Skateboarders Stories
Thu 24 Feb 2011
Some people take up skateboarding, learn a few moves, enjoy it for a few years, then move on.
But for a few, it is their life. It shapes the idea they have of themselves, their values, belief systems and even their direction. It teaches life’s lessons, sometimes brutally and as much as it brings the fear borne of fun, it delivers pain in the same measure.
Andrew MacK is a skater. He skates for life. His journey has spanned 4 decades and the hills he has bombed have been steep.
Andy wouldn’t say this of himself but he is ‘Brisbane skateboarding’. He was there in the beginning and he will be there in the end… and in the middle he was pivotal. He grew as skateboarding grew… and then someone stole all that from him.
Skateboards do one thing well. They move you. This might too. Come and hear Andy tell it like it was and how it is. Some of its fun, some of its not. Some of it might make you cry. As in skating, as in life.
