Brisbane Powerhouse and Room40 presents

Benoît Pioulard, Mist, High Wolf and Makino Takashi/Jim O'Rourke (Screening)

Thu 4 Oct 2012

Evocative song and synth pulsations care of some of the finest underground music icons from Europe and America.

In the first of three Open Frame events in 2012, we delve deep into the underbelly of music to find USA-based songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Benoît Pioulard, whose albums have Pitchfork summarising that “for those drawn to dark, hermetic, electroacoustic folk, this is comfort food”.

Joining him is the French pyramid mystic and guru of sound, High Wolf. Working amidst a flutter of deep grooves, delayed instruments and dense explosions of tone, High Wolf’s music is cosmic in its scope, finding sense in the harmony of the skies and the bass growls of the earth.

Rounding out the bill is American synth duo Mist featuring John Elliott (of Emeralds fame) and Sam Goldberg. Their recent album, House, is an affecting journey through wandering synth lines and gently chaotic pulses.

Also featured is a special Australian first screening of a powerful new collaborative work [Generator] between Japanese film maker Makino Takashi and long-term Tokyo resident Jim O’Rourke.

Duration: 90 mins incl interval
