Bindjareb Pinjarra
Tue 15 - Thu 17 Jun 2010
THE PINJARRA PROJECT (AUS)
Created by Nyoongar and Wadjella (white fella) actors, Bindjareb Pinjarra is a clever fusion of history, outrageous comedy and physical theatre.
Although this play recounts one of the bloodiest days in Western Australian history, the Battle of Pinjarra, the actors break out of their 1834 characters, to remind us of the story’s contemporary reverberations.
From the actions of Governor Stirling, to a hip-hopper's emerging awareness of his culture; from a tribal hunting party’s first encounter with a settler, to a motorcycle with a boomerang as handlebars, Bindareb Pinjarra is comical and heartfelt.
Created and performed by an equal mix of indigenous and non-indigenous actors (Isaac Drandic, Geoff Kelso, Sam Longley, Franklin Nannup, Kelton Pell and Phil Thomson) this exuberant work was originally produced in the early 1990s but was recently restaged to mark the 175th anniversary of the massacre.
Please Note: Evening performances suitable for 10 years and older. Matinee performance suitable for 8 years and older.
