BRISBANE FESTIVAL 2011 PRESENTS QUT FESTIVAL THEATRE
Blue Grassy Knoll
Thu 15 - Fri 16 Sep 2011
BLUE GRASSY KNOLL PERFORMING BUSTER KEATON’S THE GENERAL
The sounds of silents.
Blue Grassy Knoll is one of Australia’s best-loved and most accomplished musical performance troupes.
Renowned across the world for their inimitable live film-score accompaniments to Buster Keaton classic silent films, they have received multiple five-star reviews at the Edinburgh Festival, toured five continents and done seasons on Broadway and in London.
In a show for all ages, Blue Grassy Knoll will bring Keaton’s 1927 movie, The General, to life at QUT Festival Theatre, through a mischievous musical soundtrack created by the banjo, fiddle, accordion, cello, double bass, guitar, drums, flute and mandolin.
Audiences will be blown away by the way the ensemble memorises the music and uses the film itself for their cues, all the while playing in front of a large, flickering movie screen.
This is the first time this show has been performed outside of Melbourne.
“An inspired fusion of cinema and performance that never fails to delight.” ***** The Melbourne Age
“This is a show to cheer!” The New York Times
“Nothing less than pure magic” ***** The List, Edinburgh
