The 8th Annual Brisbane Queer Film Festival

Brisbane Powerhouse presents

The Set

Sat 2 Jun 07

Screening for the first time and hailed as the first gay movie made in Australia, The Set is a rare and high camp cinematic treat – don’t miss it!

Sparking widespread controversy and press sensation when it was released in 1970, The Set depicts the high life of upper-crust Sydney in the 60s and addresses the anxieties and attitudes towards homosexuals.  The central story follows the life of Paul, a young artist drawn into the amoral world of Sydney's arts society, known as 'the set'.

Paul’s drive for success in the world of stage design causes him to pawn his virginity for a lucrative career, while his working partner, idol, and sometime lover, Tony Brown, loses his career, his friends and his soul as well.
