Brisbane Powerhouse presents
Brisbane Jazz Festival
Thu 21 - Sun 24 Oct 2010
The 4th annual Brisbane Jazz Festival celebrates the voices of jazz with some of the worlds most influential and acclaimed jazz vocalists, emerging artists, ensembles and more.
With five big shows over four days, this year’s festival has distilled the essence of jazz down into the very cream of the crop.
Called ‘the most influential jazz vocalist of our time’, Kurt Elling Quartet heads our way fresh from his first Grammy Award win. Mulatu Astatke, the ‘Godfather of Ethio-Jazz’, joins with Australia’s own, The Black Jesus Experience to celebrate the timelessness of his music and influence. Aria-nominated pianist Mark Isaacs collaborates with relative newcomer, the handsome and prepossessing New York vocalist, Sachal Vasandani; and a bright, young Portugese chanteuse, Sara Serpa, graces the festival with her impressive and ethereal voice. Adding more Australian flavour is guitarist James Muller, who brings his quartet to Brisbane and, rounding out the festival with something local, fresh and free will be the Zac Hurren Trio, Louise Denson and Melbourne's Nat Bartsch.
