Such is the collective philosophy of the Carsten Daerr Trio, one of Germany’s most exciting musical exports. Pianist, Carsten Daerr, bassist, Oliver Potratz and percussionist, Eric Schaefer, think of themselves as the equilateral sides of a musical triangle – an idea as old as the history of jazz itself, yet still amazingly capable of producing ever new variations on a theme.

A decade of communal research into sound has born creative fruit for the trio, enabling them to hit upon an exciting jazz language of their own made up of certain acoustic elements e-music, classical austerity, repertoire standards, pop and mainstream.

The Carsten Daerr Trio collapses the boundaries between composition and improvisation to allow maximum scope for their ideas. Their aim is to tell stories, either with or without words.
