Champion the Cause: Against Child Traficking Benefit Gig

Thu 12 Aug 2010

ACT (Against Child Trafficking) is hosting this benefit gig to raise awareness and motivate people to action. All proceeds will go to partnering organisations.

Five up and coming Australian bands are featured and also a showcase of several organisations at the forefront of child trafficking namely World Vision, Hope Empowered, She Rescue Home, Bloom Training and Greyman.

Visiting dignitaries will include leaders in local, state and federal politics, business leaders and faith-based leaders. The theme of the concert will be: “Champion the Cause”

ACT will be calling on all Australians to be champions of the child trafficking cause, calling on the Aussie values of a fair go, mateship and fighting for the underdog. Australia is well positioned to go down in the annals of history as the nation that led the nations of the world to end this travesty of human rights.

According to UNESCO an estimated 1.2 million children, some as young as four years old, are trafficked every year for the purposes of prostitution, forced labour or organ trafficking.

The greater issue of human trafficking has now become the highest earning criminal activity on the planet thought to be worth approximately $32 billion dollars annually.

The consequences for children and families caught up in the web of child trafficking are horrendous. Children are not only robbed of their childhood but also their innocence and even their lives. When they should be playing outside in parks they are tricked, coerced and forced into a life of servitude and slavery. A large majority of these children will contract AIDS and suffer irreparable physical, mental and social damage unless someone intervenes to put a stop their suffering.
