Brisbane Powerhouse and Belarus Free Theatre present
Discover Love
Belarus Free Theatre (BLR)
Thu 16 - Sun 19 Feb 2012
SMS: Kidnapping. Murder. Love. True Story.
Meet near the river. Don’t tell anyone.
Existing in the shadows, the world’s most political theatre company Belarus Free Theatre presents works that are illegal in their own country. Relying on SMS messages and word-of-mouth to direct audiences to performances in Belarus, they tour to expose the travesties of the most repressive country in Europe.
Discover Love is based on real facts from the life of Irina Krasovskaya, whose husband Anatoly was kidnapped and murdered for rendering assistance to the democratic body of Belarus.
Revealing the reflections of a woman living this tragedy, Irina laments about things left undone, dreams unrealized and words unsaid in this universal exploration of grief, love and regret.
"Discover Love leaves a strong desire to learn more. Audiences will likely find themselves Googling the names of the play's ill-fated protagonists after the show. ...this must be considered an artistic success.” David Ng, The Los Angeles Times
In Belarusian and Russian with English surtitles.
Recommended for people aged 15 years and over.
