World Theatre Festival 2011
Brisbane Powerhouse presents
Downtown
Wed 16 - Sun 20 Feb 2011
Rosie Dennis (AUS)
PERFORMANCE + SCRATCH
Using a digital road works sign, popular science and an imaginary dog called Jerry, Downtown attempts to illustrate how we effect and affect each other in public space.
During World Theatre Festival, Rosie Dennis will walk the streets of Brisbane collecting anecdotal stories from strangers about the multiple ways we interact with each other and the city.
Over five consecutive evenings Rosie will then recount stories and share highlights from her day while simultaneously exposing the process of making live performance. On the fifth and final evening Rosie will be joined on stage by the Brisbane Lesbian and Gay Pride Choir to present the completed production of Downtown.
Told with Dennis’s trademark wry humour, Downtown is a made-to-measure performance for Brisbane.
“Downtown is a whimsical work from an artist who fixes us with a searching eye and vocal rhythms that, although now comforting, still incline to the pulse of poetry...”RealTime
