Eddie Perfect, ANAM and the Brodsky Quartet: Songs from the Middle
Fri 6 Aug 2010
MUSICAL DIRECTOR IAIN GRANDAGE
FEATURING MUSICIANS OF THE AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL ACADEMY OF MUSIC
The ever innovative UK-based Brodsky Quartet takes a detour into the world of cabaret with comedian, Eddie Perfect.
There wasn’t much you could say was missing in the Melbourne suburb of Mentone, with its long stretch of beach, ten-pin bowling alley and Bunnings Warehouse. Still, Edmund Thomas Perfect, born and raised there, couldn’t wait to leave and as soon as he could, he headed to the city.
Now, driven by a brand of nostalgia reserved only for new fathers, Edmund Thomas Perfect decided to return to Mentone in order to find inspiration for a new musical work. But, why is it so difficult to make peace with such a harmless, ultimately charming, sea-side suburb?
This is a piece about the nature of belonging, the reason people live in the places they do and why those places matter. It’s about remembering and pretending to forget. It’s a show about Mentone.
It’s time to put your live music experience on shuffle. Musical boundaries are blurred as the Brodsky Quartet, Eddie Perfect, ANAM and Topology dip in and out of each others worlds in the first of the OMG (Other Musical Genres) series.
"Eddie's an anti-hero born of our age, with a show for our times. He's also a very clever, very funny bastard. More power to him."
Wade Howland - DB Magazine - June 2005
"...perfect voice...wicked humour...cunning way with language and rhyme...Perfect is shrewd, irreverent and a consummate performer."
Kate Herbert - Herald Sun - September 2005
"...this angry Australian's sense of humour is so caustic it could strip paint off railings, his material makes you wince almost as often as it makes you laugh. Perfect's singing voice is a thing of raw beauty...his lyrics are shrapnel-sharp...deeply impressive..." Roger Cox - The Scotsman - August 2005 - Edinburgh Festival
