Even Our Dreams are Fake

This exhibition uses highly constructed photographic images to challenge the hyperreal imagery portrayed in contemporary
consumer culture.

The visual image has become the dominant form of communication in popular culture, yet it presents a hyperreal, fragmented version of reality. The images we are offered become part of the construction of an idealised veneer of the Western world – one that is driven by consumption and that associates value with objects.

In Even Our Dreams are Fake, Amy Carkeek places iconographic objects against the absurd and the uncanny to challenge these Western values; uncovering that which lies beneath their thin, artificial veneer.
