Frankly! It’s a Pop Festival

Sat 10 Sep 2011

Frankly! is back for Brisbane Festival 2011 with more esoteric songstresses, enigmatic audio mavericks and otherwise audacious pop deconstructionists. The 2011 festival features a collection of visionary artists and bands from the USA, Japan and Australia.

Highlighting new avant pop from Japan, Frankly! plays host to Tokyo Folktronica artist Miko (backed by Celer) and Osaka eccentric song queen Ytamo.

From Australia, Frankly! proudly lists back porch indie folk The Twerps to round out the lineup and with more great artists still to be announced, the event is set to be the biggest yet.

This year Frankly! pays special attention to the burgeoning Los Angeles Hypnagogic-pop underground by showcasing the Not Not Fun label. Easily one of the most prolific and eccentric labels on the face of the planet, we welcome Not Not Fun icons LA Vampires and label mates Wet Hair.

Over the past few years, Frankly! has delved deep into the cracks and fissures of pop music, uncovering the unusual, the transgressive and ultimately the transfixing. It's a festival that throws caution to the wind and seeks out the finest creators of music that swims outside the flags.

This year's focus is split with Frankly! casting a magnifying glass over the new Japanese and Los Angeles undergrounds!

Artist Line-up: LA Vampires, Wet HairMiko, Ytamo,  The Twerps + more to be annouced soon!
