Fraudulent Behaviour
Fri 20 - Sun 22 Aug 2010
Fraudulent Behaviour by Rosie Dennis uses prose, invisible friends, a decoy duck and cardboard cut-outs to create a witty and thoughtful performance in response to Nietzsche’s assertion, “we need lies in order to live”.
The work is about the lies that are rarely questioned; the lies that are taken for granted; and the lies we tell when the truth is too complicated.
“Here was a performer/raconteur who looks at the world and observes it exquisitely and then constructs poetry/prose to communicate her take on it. Rosie Dennis is quirky, witty, compassionate and more, everything one would want from a human being. She makes you happy to be with her. The dancing, the organising of her presentation, her props, her stories, her sheer beauty is a glorious thing to experience. I could relate in a way that was considerate of me, the audience. It seemed I was important to her to be there rather than a trapped listener in a dark room…” Kevin Jackson Blog
“…You laugh at her lightness but as you’re laughing, she has moved to a darker, lonelier sentiment, evoking such humanity you don’t want her go. Sometimes the best bits occur when her trajectory is broken temporarily, and she tells us exactly what she’s thinking…” Drum Media
“…it’s lovely to be lied to so convincingly…” RealTime 92
