Ewan MacKenzie and Swing Manouche is Ewan’s latest venture into the world of Django Reinhardt and the music he pioneered known as Jazz Manouche or Gypsy Jazz, this time exploring the guitar and clarinet featured by Django’s lineups during the war years in Paris.
They are Ewan MacKenzie and Miranda Deutsch on guitars, Dan Cosgrove on clarinet, tenor sax and vocals, Kay Sullivan on accordion and vocals and Peter Freeman on bass.
Featuring the improvisational and compositional skills of Ewan, Dan and Kay, Swing Manouche look forward to bringing you their infectious and lyrical take on the unique style of music that is Gypsy Jazz. They’ve recently released their first CD Out of Nowhere featuring standards and original Gypsy Jazz.
Michel Trabelsi was born on 9 May 1961 in Nice (France) and started guitar at the age of 18 years old self taught playing picking and rock. He settled in New Caledonia in 1988 and started listening to Wes Montgomery and jazz music in general, and then it’s the “Coup de Coeur” for Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli music. He invites the famous gypsy guitarist Raphael Fays in Noumea for a series of 4 concerts and records an album with him.
Then he plays with Florin Niculescu, Alexandre Cavaliere, Angélo Debarre, Christophe Lartilleux, Ewan McEnzy, Costel Nitescu, Ritary and so many others.With Gypsy Swing Quintet, he is accompanied by Morgan Pflumio and Brice Prudent on rythm guitars, Daniel Baudin on violon and Jérôme Marchand on double bass for your enjoyment.
