It was Twenty Years Ago Today: Topology and Tara Simmons
Tue 27 Apr 10
The Berlin wall had just come down, Iraq War part I was all over CNN and there was exactly one website. Mobiles were expensive bricks, text messaging was just an idea, and no one had heard of mp3s. The radio played Nirvana, EMF, Chris Isaak, Jesus Jones, Pearl Jam, R.E.M. and our Kylie.
Topology teams up with indie songstress Tara Simmons and Misinterprotato drummer John Parker to revisit the fluorescent sounds of the early nineties. They approach these classic tunes in the spirit of invention they¹re not so much doing cover versions as creating new music cut from the cloth of these 20-year-old songs.
They¹ll be topologising Ratcat, Salt n Pepa, KLF, Frente, Stone Roses, Madonna, Massive Attack and more putting them through the wringer and seeing what comes out intact.
Topology is Artist-in-Residence at Brisbane Powerhouse.
