Matinya Toekang Kritik (Death of a Critic)
Wed 8 - Thu 9 Aug 07
BUTET KARTAREDJASA
Writer: Agus Noor, Director Whani Dharmawan, Music Djaduk Ferianto
One of Indonesia’s most celebrated actors brings his satirical genius to the Brisbane stage in a brilliant show that explores the role of the critic in democracy.
Hailed as the Max Gillies of Indonesia and notorious for his irreverent impersonations of
Indonesian leaders, Butet is the hilarious and irrepressible thorn in the side of the
Indonesian body politic.
This virtuoso actor, accompanied by his maestro brother Djaduk Ferianto and an
ensemble of Indonesian’s finest musicians, depicts the struggle of a die-hard critic to survive in an era where voices of descent are repressed, silenced or just simply ignored.
Performed in Indonesian with English subtitles.
