Mulligans

Sun 5 Apr 09

Drama

Mulligan (noun): A golf shot not tallied against the score, granted in informal play after a poor shot especially from the tee

Set amid the polite homophobia of the upper middle class, Mulligans is a fresh take on coming out, ripe with adventure, revelations and betrayal.

Beer-swilling, sports-playing Tyler Davidson invites his college buddy Chase to spend the summer holidays with the picture-perfect Davidson family. But when things don’t click between Chase and the hot local girls, Chase comes out and Tyler unexpectedly has to cope with having a gay best friend.

That’s not the only surprise. Tyler’s mother Stacey (Thea Gill from Queer as Folk) yanks Birdy, the family’s precocious eight-year-old, away from her carnal explorations with a local boy and thrusts her right into the arms of a female tennis coach. But pre-adolescent lesbianism is nothing compared to the heartbreak that ensues for the whole family when Stacey discovers her husband Nathan has his own secret.
