TARIAN MALAM, Nan Jombang’s new full length work is the genesis of what was the experience of the evening of the 30th September 2009. In the work the forces of nature equate with the fortunes and endeavours of humanity and artists in particular.
Alongside this, the role of women in the matrilineal Minangkabau culture, Choreographer Ery Mefri’s continues to extend the conversation between traditional form and modernity while reflecting on the passionate belief in the importance of maintaining this intrinsic tradition in Minangkabau society.
