Brisbane Powerhouse and Room 40 presents
Open Frame
Thu 2 - Fri 3 Oct 08
FEATURING KK NULL (JP), BIRCHVILLE CAT MOTEL (NZ), DOMENICO SCIAJNO (IT), OREN AMBARCHI (AU), MAKINO TAKASHI (JP) AND MORE
Open Frame returns with two evenings of acute sound and sight experiences that highlight the endless diversity that orbits contemporary sound and avant-music.
This year the festival plays host to an eclectic line up of artists from Europe, Japan, New Zealand and Australia. Exploratory guitarist, Sunn O))) collaborator and low frequency extender, Oren Ambarchi, makes a rare trip to Brisbane for the festival. Joining the Open Frame line-up from Japan is the iconic psychedelic noise maestro, KK Null, and from across the ditch NZ’s finest, Birchville Cat Motel and Antony Milton submerge the ears in some hazy Wellington soundwaves.
Also appearing for the first time in Australia is Domenico Sciajno, long time collaborator with acclaimed composer Alvin Curran. A true innovator of MAXMSP and the visual software Jitter, Sciajno’s work revolves around a uniquely designed instrument he has developed.
The program also features special screenings of several film works by one of Japan’s leading underground filmmakers Makino Takashi and much more. A veritable feast of sound and media!
