Brisbane Powerhouse and Topology present
Overclocked: Topology and Grant Collins
Wed 1 Sep 2010
What happens when a drum kit legend gets together with one of Australia’s most inventive bands? Infectiously new grooves and unchartered territory.
Topology continues in their quest for the unexplored by putting unexpected things together. Grant Collins, known worldwide for his wildly polyrhythmic chops, gets together with the strings, sax and piano of Topology to find the musical jewels in mathcore, breakbeat warping, Latin jazz, and South Indian rhythm languages, assembling them into something you’ve never heard before.
Grant’s oversized kit allows him to take an orchestral approach to drumming, layering multiple hues in with the resonances of Topology’s acoustic colours.
"I travel the world performing and meeting many great drummers. It is not often I hear someone who is on the cutting edge of modern drum set performance. Well, in Australia I heard that person…Grant Collins! When you hear him, be prepared for the ride he will take you on... you will remember it for the rest of your life!" Dom Famularo, Internationally acclaimed drummer
"Some music has to be seen and not just heard. Brisbane-based Topology’s east coast tour gave us a live, working band with a casually theatrical and jazzy spontaneity you might not be expecting… the music oscillating between sweet reflectiveness, potent piano-bass propulsion and some dramatic sax interpolations."
