Brisbane Powerhouse and Top Shelf present Planet
Band of Brothers
Thu 25 Mar 10
Featuring Slava & Leonard Grigoryan and Joseph & James Tawadros.
Musical symbiosis is one way to describe the instrumental mastery of Band of Brothers — an exhilarating fusion of world flavours is another.
Combining the virtuosity of Slava and Leonard Grigoryan on classical guitar, Joseph Tawadros on oud and brother James on req, the music of Band of Brothers has a vibrancy and playfulness within which the traditions of classical Egypt and Europe dance together.
Slava and Leonard, although known mostly for their classical work, focus on world fusion for this project. Egyptian born and Sydney bred, Joseph and James are leading exponents of Egyptian music and have recently toured as principal soloists with the Australian Chamber Orchestra presenting a program of Egyptian orchestral music.
As a collaborative ensemble, they bring not only years of classical training, discipline and skill, but a joy in performing together, taking the music of their heritage and creating resonant originals and inspired reinventions.
Free pre-show entertainment on the Turbine Platform from 6pm co-presented with BEMAC.

Mzaza is a plethora of talent. With every member of the band being a multi-instrumentalist, this outfit from Brisbane combines sounds from east and west with ease and sensuality and creates a sound that is one of a kind. Mzaza’s repertoire spreads from classical Turkish tunes fused with jazz-style improvisation vocals to French chanson and interpretations of Sephardic/Spanish songs. Their debut CD Parliament Of The Birds is out now!
