High rise, high life?

Population growth, density and development in Brisbane: connections, community and changing perspectives.

Population growth and high housing costs are driving new approaches to planning communities where medium-high density housing is combined with critical infrastructure such as railway stations, employment, schools and parks.

Are we ready to embrace higher density housing? What are the implications ? How do we hold onto and facilitate strong community connections in this new landscape, so that neighbourhoods are places of belonging?

Panel to include:

·         Professor Peter Spearrit- University of Queensland

·         Councillor David Hinchliffe- Brisbane City Council

·         Property developer

·         Community members

All that twitters is not  gold

More and more people are turning to social networking sites such as twitter and facebook, as a way of being connected.   What are the implications for social inclusion and cross generational communication?   Has social networking changed campaigns and causes? Will virtual communities replace physical ones or do new technologies increase our opportunities to connect and participate? Are they available to everyone?
