Q Music Industry Workshops
Wed 3 - Wed 24 Nov 2010
A professional development program aimed at musicians and music industry workers of all ages.
The workshops will shine a light into the dark recesses of the music industry to help young aspiring and even more established artists navigate their way through the ever changing music industry.
This series will include topics looking into the Australian Radio landscape, free recording software and how best to use it, DIY party and event organisation and a special session aimed at guitar enthusiasts.
Wed 3rd: DIY and Do it Right facilitated by Q Music’s Dan Lewis: DIY initiatives play a vital role in sustaining and developing Brisbane’s independent music scene. In this session, Q Music Facilitator Dan Lewis hears from some of the city’s most exciting DIY outfits on motivation, integration, funding, and sustainability. Joining the conversation will be the Fans Group’s Jesse Barbera; Andrew White of Lo-Fly & the Hangar; and Matt Rabbidge of Nine Lives & Lick it Media (now Happy Endings). This panel will benefit artists, managers, promoters, and anyone aiming to forge their own direction in the industry.
Wed 10th: Garageband 101 presented by MusicLab’s Dominic McGlinn: This session will be an expose of the features of Garageband, the free software that comes with all Apple Macs that can be used to create music and podcasts. It’s a wonderful tool for the musician and is used by many famous songwriters as a songwriting tool such as Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nail, Ben Folds and Stump from Fall Out Boy. This session will provide you with practical tips on how to use this software to demo your songs at home, how to use the inbuilt samples, what outboard equipment you may require and how to do it without extras. You’d be crazy to miss this if you have access to this software and don’t use it.
Wed 17th: The Australian Radio Landscape facilitated by SGC New Media’s Stephen Green and featuring speakers from all corners of the radio spectrum including Sally Dobson Creative Consultant to Commercial Radio, Michelle Brown from 4ZZZ, Chris Johnson from AMRAP, Kate Casey from Nova. This will be a lively conversation about the state of radio, the music industry and finally you will have the opportunity to ask the right person “how do I get my music on the radio?”
Wed 24th: Songwriting Workshop Co Presented by APRA/AMCOS facilitated by author Andrew Stafford - Q Music is very happy to announce this special songwriting workshop featuring Richie and Tamara (the Hits) and Geoff and Ben Corbett (SixFtHick).
