Queensland Music Festival, Brisbane City Council and Brisbane Powerhouse present Dancenorth's
Remember Me
Wed 29 Jul - Sat 1 Aug 09
This powerful Australian work by Dancenorth, choreographed by Gavin Webber and the dancers, merges live music by renowned composer Iain Grandage with film, theatre and dance to create a work of great tenderness and nostalgia.
Documenting a lifestyle of weekly dancing that has largely disappeared from modern Australian life, Remember Me is a meeting place for two different generations and an insight into the differences and similarities of people. Dance and the body become metaphors for larger concerns about age, life and death, as they both inhabit the same space, one like a memory or premonition of the other.
With dynamic and intensely physical choreography, compelling narratives and powerful imagery combine to create a performance with poignant thematic pulse.
Thanks to the Australia Council for the Arts Music Board for commissioning Iain Grandage’s new music score; the Australian Festival of Chamber Music for the original collaboration; the Dalrymple Cultural Community Centre Trust and the Charters Towers Social Dancers.
Please note this production is recommended for patrons aged 15 years and over.
