Rhonda Burchmore in Cry Me a River: The World of Julie London
Wed 1 - Sun 5 Feb 2012
Rhonda Burchmore injects humour and a fair degree of smouldering sensuousness in telling the story of one of America's most mysterious sirens; Julie London.
Melbourne vocalist Rhonda Burchmore presents the life and times of US vocalist Julie London (1926 - 2000) backed by a six piece band.
From the opening version of London's biggest hit, Cry Me A River, Burchmore takes us to the West Coast Cool jazz scene in the 1950s and 1960s.
Julie London was not just a singer, making more than thirty albums, but also a pin-up and calendar girl, and an actress in over twenty films (1944 - 1961) and on television (1957 - 1978)
The music in the show is a series of standards from the great American Songbook, one great song after another, interspersed with snippets of Julie London's life story.
Some of the songs performed are:
Cry Me A River
Let There be Love
Saturday Night (is the Loneliest Night in the Week)
'S Wonderful
You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To
The More I See You
Daddy
Black Coffee
Hello Dolly
Give Me The Simple Life
Say It Isn't So
The End of the World
The Party's Over
