Brisbane Powerhouse presents
Robert Forster
Fri 15 Aug
After the death of Grant McLennan, his writing partner of 25 years, Robert Forster knew he would record again. Now, two years after McLennan’s tragic demise, Forster returns to the stage to perform music from his stunning new album, The Evangelist.
Critics hailed The Go-Betweens as Australia’s greatest ever group. The sudden death of Grant McLennan sent shockwaves across the world and brought Robert Forster to a painful crossroads in his life. That crossroads is reflected in The Evangelist, a brave and heartrending insight of Forster during this time of grief. Wildly progressive and haunted by the ghost of his soul mate, The Evangelist is Robert’s first solo album in 12 years and features seven songs penned by Robert and three co-written with Grant. Like the Go-Betweens’ swan song Oceans Apart, the album was produced by Mark Wallis and Dave Ruffy at Good Luck Studios in South London.
The band consists of remaining Go-Betweens and long-time collaborators bassist Adele Pickvance and drummer Glenn Thompson. Don’t miss this very intimate concert and poignant farewell to a lost brother.
“The Evangelist is wonderful, an old fashioned tour de force. Ten songs that are honestly the equal of Robert’s finest. A wonderful treat.” John Earls, Channel 4 UK
