Brisbane Jazz Festival
Brisbane Powerhouse presents
Sara Serpa
Sun 24 Oct 2010
PT/USAA native of Portugal, New York-based vocalist and composer, Sara Serpa has established herself as a pillar among many young jazz musicians.
Sara has lived around music all her life. Creating melodies that seem to tell everyone a different story, she sings mostly wordless music, going beyond the traditional scat technique.
Her ability to navigate through demanding instrumental music and improvise over complex chord progressions is amazingly natural, and has attracted the attention of established jazz musicians such as saxist, Greg Osby. Sara participated in Osby’s recording 9 Levels and he produced Sara’s debut album, Pria.
Performing alongside Sara will be guitarist, Andre Matos and the Aaron Choulai Trio.
Sara Serpa (vocals), Andre Matso (guitar), Aaron Choulai (piano), Sugawa Takashi (bass) and Tanaka Noritaka (drums).
“She’s the freshest vocalist on the scene at the moment” Phil DiPietro, All About Jazz
