Brisbane Powerhouse presents
The Be(A)st of Taylor Mac
Sun 23 Nov 08
Sequins, glitter and gloves are just a taste of the strange beauty that makes up Taylor Mac’s ukulele-strumming fusion of performance art, cabaret and drag.
A flamboyant chameleon of words, music, and socio-political tirades, Taylor Mac employs gender bending surrealism to explore the human condition and challenge the contemporary culture of fear.
Named one of New York’s best (Time Out and the New York Press), Taylor made his UK debut at the 2006 Edinburgh Festival where he garnered huge critical success and a prestigious Herald Angel Award.
Directed by Obie Award winner David Drake.
“It’s not just that his delivery is flawless... it’s that his smart, funny, tragic songs are life-affirming in their universality, yet delivered in such an understated way he’s on to the next before you realise the profundity of what he’s said.” The Scotsman
Presented in association with Adelaide’s Feast Festival.
Duration: 90mins, no interval.
