Brisbane Powerhouse presents

The Catholics

Thu 4 Nov 2010

This award winning seven-piece ensemble bring their much-loved blendings of jazz and worldbeat back to Brisbane.

Their leader, composer and bassist, Lloyd Swanton, is internationally respected for his work with improvising legends, The Necks. Lloyd has also appeared on over 85 albums, many of them ARIA Award winners, for artists including Vince Jones, Wendy Matthews and Bernie McGann.

For The catholics, Lloyd assembled some of the best musicians in Australia from a wide spectrum of musical backgrounds - Sandy Evans (saxophones), James Greening (trombone and pocket trumpet), Jonathan Pease (guitar), Bruce Reid (slide guitars), Hamish Stuart (drums), and Fabian Heviam (percussion).

By combining strong jazz rhythms, catchy pop and the band's various African, Caribbean, Latin and Eastern influences, The catholics are creating unique and exciting compositions.
