MUSIC INSPIRED BY DAVID LYNCH
Made from the who’s who of Melbourne’s music scene, this band has taken its inspiration from master filmmaker, David Lynch.
Led by Kynan Robinson, The Escalators’ are normally found playing in dozens of significant bands such as CW Stoneking, Ned Collette and Wirewalker, Andrea Keller Quartet, Black Arm Band and Des Peres. However they have come together for this unique approach to music making and, by interpreting the film works of David Lynch, have created a hauntingly beautiful sound.
The band has also worked with visual artists Kiron Robinson, Nikos Panzapaloupalous and Michelle Robinson to create a set design that includes video and a live show that teeters on the edge of haunting beauty and Lynchian weirdness.
Musicians include Kynan Robinson (trombone/composer), Erik Griswald (piano), Mick Meagher (bass), Joe Talia (drums), Pat Thiel (trumpet), Lawrence Folvig (guitar) and DJ Element (turntables).
“The trombone-wielding young Australian leader is both improvisatory player and meticulous composer, his music always logical yet often surprising.” Doug Spencer, Radio National
