Ubiet and Kroncong Tenggara

SONGS OF LOVE AND REVOLUTION
LAGU CINTA DAN REVOLUSI
Jamaica has reggae, Trinidad has Calypso and Brazil has Chouro. Indonesia has Kroncong – a popular form of romantic, nostalgic and heroic folk music that will transport you to the bustling streets and colourful marketplaces of the archipelago.
Kroncong is the People’s music; the music that fueled the Indonesian independence movement of the 40s and farewelled the Dutch as they sailed from the East Indies.
Join Indonesia’s most inventive songstress, Ubiet, as she teams up with legendary songwriter Dian HP and Indonesia’s finest instrumentalists to beautifully deconstruct and reconstruct music that epitomises Indonesian diversity and pluralism. You will enjoy vocals reminiscent of Portuguese Fado, ukulele rhythms of the Pacific and a playful blend of cello, violin, accordion and traditional percussion. Discover Kroncong, one of the great popular music forms of the 20th Century, world music’s best kept secret.
