Wish Me Away
Sun 15 Apr 2012
A personal and intimate look at Chely Wright, the first country music star to come out as gay.
Chely Wright is a beautiful, talented, award-winning country music singer who seems to have it all but feels like she is living a lie. Filmed over the course of three years, this penetrating documentary looks at an artist about to make a life changing announcement.
Wish Me Away shows both the devastation of Chely’s own internalised homophobia, which led to her putting a gun in her mouth, and the transformational power of living an authentic life. After a lifetime of hiding, Chely shatters cultural and religious stereotypes within Nashville, her conservative family, and most importantly, herself.
