World Press Photo Exhibition Takes Flight at Brisbane Powerhouse

01 JUN 2023

Brisbane Powerhouse is excited to announce the return of the annual World Press Photo Exhibition, an international showcase of the best photojournalism and documentary photography of 2022.

Showing from Saturday 29 July to Sunday 20 August, the 2023 Exhibition invites viewers to step outside the news cycle and think critically about important global topics.

The Exhibition explores themes including climate crisis, community and war’s impact on civilians while demonstrating the importance of press photography around the world.

Brisbane Powerhouse CEO/AD Kate Gould is excited to see the much-loved exhibition return to the iconic arts venue.

“We love bringing exhibitions such as this to the community to help shed light on global, sometimes lesser-known, stories,” Gould said.

Reflecting the global nature of the Exhibition, Brisbane Powerhouse is delighted to welcome back Brisbane Airport Corporation, joined for the first time in 2023 by EVA Air, as key presenting partners.

In celebration of the inaugural partnership, EVA Air will give World Press Photo Exhibition visitors the chance to win two return economy flights to Europe via its carrier network*.

General Manager of EVA Air Australia Victor Hsiao is delighted with the partnership, saying the organisation is excited to give back to Brisbane through the new relationship.

“With Brisbane being our Australian hub, EVA Air is extremely proud to partner with this event and help bring international stories to Brisbane communities,” Hsiao said.

Brisbane Airport Corporation CEO Gert-Jan de Graaff says this is the 18th year of partnering with Brisbane Powerhouse.

“The World Press Photos remind us of the difficult issues facing people across the globe in a very powerful and vivid way. For the first time, we will boost the reach of the Exhibition beyond Brisbane Powerhouse and into our Domestic Terminal,” Mr de Graaff said.

“In August, we’ll present a sneak peek of the Exhibition throughout an in-terminal gallery for thousands of passengers to soak up as they pass through Brisbane Airport.”
