Zhivago

A potent mix of strong musical chemistry and a mutual love of improvisatory and cross-genre string playing, Zhivago is a string quartet with a gyspy heart. Fiery original compositions and arrangements of rock, pop and blues standards (David Bowie, Jeff Buckley, Miles Davis) fuse together to showcase these four exciting artists. Individually they have performed at some of Australia’s major festivals: WOMAD, Big Day Out, Brisbane Festival. 

Zhivago's Restrung programme will feature string quartets  by our very own Sallie Campbell (Kate Miller-Heidke Band, ex-Tulipan), including two world premieres especially commissioned by Restrung.  Campbell's instrumentals blend rich folk/gypsy melodies and harmonies with dynamic rhythmic drive. An organic progression from her Tulipan days, these tunes conjure images of wild gypsy fireside parties, and long journeys through mystical landscapes.
